I whole heartedly approve of this project, and if it's possible, when you get an album or two scanned, I wonder if I might bother you and request a CD or DVD-ROM copy of the photos. Of course, absolutely no rush on anything.
What I'm going to do as I finish up each volume is burn them to CD-ROMs so everyone can have them. I'll put both the full pages and individual photo highlights.
